Princess Culture, Mommy Wars and Princess isn't a Career....

Okay there is a huge, HUGE backlash about "princesses".  There are so many woman who have a huge problem with princesses, mostly Disney, but also with pretty much ANY princess.  It stems from the fact that in fairy tales the princess are all rescued from a MAN and that princess are responsible for over sexualizing girls. (UM hmmmmm.) Really.  And BTW they add American Girls into the whole debacle--- cuz they are SO over sexualizing.

article 6 here she starts out saying how a little girl came and PLAYED with all the others but she was in a princess dress--- then goes on to say how being dressed that way limits play.  WHAT?
article 7 I love how they keep saying it is sexualizing girls too early and then say something silly like that have Disney at 3, Bratz at 5, and Kardashian girls at 10.. UM DON'T LET THEM!!!!!
article 8  from a mans perspective.. but I still say UM or you could tell the men to NOT ogle the 16 year old cheerleader.... !

Now I don't have a huge problem with the "CONCEPT" of this video but, number one the kids seemed mostly surprised that it was the same person-- as they were not expecting that. Plus they had already pictured in their head who these people were so they needed to a second to adjust.. I don't think they were SHOCKED it was a girl cuz girls should be at home with an apron on.  :0)  I do have some issues with the last statement "Everyone has the right to choose what they want to be"  I don't think that is a right.. you might say privilege but I don't know that it is a right.  Thoughts..






Okay I digress, so back to the video below. 
First, I would think Princess Diana would feel differently but heck she was only one of the most renowned women Behind Mother Theresa in the world)
Second, UM a teacher, career, career, career and EVEN a scientist.  REALLY?
Third, I just don't like that lady very much.
Fourth, WHY IN THE world have the feminist-- woman backing up other woman, standing strong for the race and all that jazz NOT insisted on the woman supreme court justices getting to wear a different neck thingy?

Rocking the Vote @ Bayshore.... teaching a new generation. Nov 2012

 

I cannot begin to express how important I feel it is to teach this next generation about the importance of voting.  It is absolutely imperative.  Did you know that there is approximately 207,643,594 eligible voters, and as of Tuesday... only appx. 140,000,000 voted.. Where were 50 million + voters? 

I will tell you where they were.... at home.  They thought I don't like either candidate so I just won't vote.  Well, your vote is your vote, but your non vote is harmful.  You at the least could have voted for the libertarian Gary Johnson, I wont even venture towards the Green Party's candidate.  :0)  But instead you didn't let your voice be heard at all.   I think that is sad... there is no such thing as "the lesser evil"... I promise you one IS more evil than the other.  There is bad about both candidates... but more good than bad in one of them!

Anyhow, it's over... the people (who voted) have spoken.  I hope to raise up this next generation to make their voices heard.....and to SPEAK not only on election day... but in every vote... county officials, congress, judges, boards of education, sheriff.... IT all matters. 

Yesterday and Today...

okay.... here is my last two days and some pretty, pretty pictures from Garner.

I have been DOING way more in the last two days than I have done in two weeks!

 

We have had one or more sick people SINCE Garner...

we had two good days last week and that was it! SO crazy!

  

 

Yesterday,  

 

I cleaned (and boy was it needed-- still not done),

did errands..

 

returned a bunch of stuff, dry cleaning, bank... etc. 

Got together stuff needing to go to other people... ready to GET IT OUT OF MY HOUSE!

 

I did school with Emily

CLEANED the school room and got my new bookshelves in order!

 

shopped at the grocery store

cooked dinner (YEAH)

washed clothes,

 

 

 

Today,

 

yelled at my kids... really, actually yelled (doesn't happen that often-- I am sarcastic, I am loud, I am a TALKER... but I don't yell that often.... this morning I did)

 

But, I settled down and spoke with them calmly... explained what was expected of them and laid down the law... it felt good.

 

I kept 10 kids (they were all really, really good)

made funnel cake-- it was good too.

did school with Mary Faith and Emily for almost 5 hours straight-- one little break.

 

and I cleaned.

I also took Kaitlin to her officer meeting for 4-H

Done.  Well till tomorrow at least... plus that last load of laundry tonight!

 

 

 

Keepers of the Home... meeting 4

At this weeks meeting the girls started a quilt, a small version for a doll, to learn about quilting.  We are also going to be making quilts for babies to give to a shelter or somewhere like that... but these bandanna baby quilts are our practice.

First the girls had to iron their bandanna's--- Kate has ironed before but doesn't really know how and Emily had never ironed before!  Learning this skills is part of the reason we are doing this!

Next the girls learned to cut out their batting to fit their material...

 

 

and last they all sewed on the machine!

 

 

 

The two older girls seem pretty serious.. the younger girls I think liked pushing the pedal!  :0)

I Don't Think We Are in Kansas Anymore....Wizard of Oz Book Party

We had a Wizard of Oz book party... So much fun!  The girls came into the house via the yellow brick road.....

 

 

 

We had crafts...

 

 

the first one was to make an ornament.  Each girl had 9 strips of paper, each strip represented the major characters or things in the Wizard of Oz... they simply twirled the strips and put them in the ornament...

 

 

 

 

The girls also made a Dorothy paper doll....

 

 

 

And painted a sun catcher rainbow....

We had a snack of beautiful cookies made by Becky's friend..

 

 

and then the girls go to dress up as Dorothy for a pic....um, I got a little carried away, but we had fun!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sunday Sum Up: week 6-7 2012-2013

{day 50-59}

 

 

 

 

Okay so I have not summed up for a while!!!  Too busy doing to sum it all up!

 

Often I get so busy during school I forget to take pictures! BUT most of these help some up what we do daily and have covered in the past three weeks of school...

 

The girls finished The three books in the Epic of Gilgamesh (they didn't appreciate it the way I do.... )

We read about the Middle East Cinderella and all about mummies!

 

Reading about mummies led us to...

 

 

 

 

being mummies!!!

 

 

We went back in time to finish to our dinosaur lap book and Emily made fossil cookies..

 

 

 

Kate and Matt are just diligently plugging along.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 The girls worked on art, English, math, read an article in Creation.... we also worked on the set up of a paragraph...

 

We learned about ziggurates and much more in history and have been reviewing our history cards diligently!

 

 

 

 

 

SO anyway... not a complete picture of the last few weeks but a mini view of parts. We are all learning a lot and keep moving on!  I have to tweak a few areas for the girls, but they are minor and Kate and Matt are doing well... and reading a lot!

 

 

Annual rant or pictures..... um pictures!

It is about that time for my annual Halloween rant... but I have decided instead this year I shall simply post pictures of my beautiful children!  We had our annual camping trip to Garner State Park last weekend and I got some great shots!

okay another Through the Years post about Garner.... we have gone to Garner almost every year since Kaitlin was 11 months old.

My family also went when I was a child AND my mom's family went when she was a child....



I love this tradition.

I. love. this. tradition.

*The first year we tent camped and Brett and Amy had an RV.

*The second year we rented cabins in old Garner-- which are very nice for the most part.

*Since then we have rented a lodge on the other side of the river from Garner but still a part of the state park. There is a huge dining hall/ cooking area, bathrooms and five dorm style cabins with 8 bunks. You can have up to 40 people at a time. It is beautiful and we are only a few feet from our own access to the river....
