Weekly Wrap up-- Week 30 and 31

Week 30

I ended up not even posting last weeks wrap up, we literally did one day of work and the rest was a wash! So besides Princess Class and the one day of school we accomplished very, very little! I just went ahead and accepted the fact that we DID have Spring Break!

Week 31

Monday-

Well now that we officially have two cars (YEAH) I dont have to take Dave to work.  TRUTH- I liked taking him, we talked about our day and stuff, plus it was extra time spent with him.

So I got up, Emily made chocolate chip muffins- yum!

Kate and I cooked up three lbs of ground beef for various dinners this week, so Monday's casserole was made and in the fridge before 9:30!  WHOOP

Cleaned a lot, did laundry and worked in the school room- which was an organizational nightmare.  I have to do lesson plans for the next 6 weeks and I felt CRAZY!  I needed to put away what had been used, see what stuff I HAVE to go with the next few weeks- or see what I want to use!  DONE and DONE!  So now I just have to put it on paper!  After the math grading catch up last week.. I took note of some spots the kids are really struggling with- so all three are going to participate in some area, perimeter and measuring talks!

They each started new books this week:

Matt- Mary Poppins (he started this but went to somethign else for some reason so he is finishing it)

Kate- Sport (sequal to Harriet the Spy)

Emily- The Courage of Sarah Noble (I read a few paragraphs with her and she was doing fine so I left her alone- I am very excited about this!!!!)

I let the kids work on a David and Goliath color/ sticker book because I need to print more stuff for our BIBLE- hense the PLANNING!

I also decided to go back through our Bible book and take questions from different stories we have already done to make a review/ game out of it.

We reviewed our history cards

We did SCIENCE!!!!  So behind where I want to be- must push foward!  We are still working on the senses.  and started working on some models.

TUESDAY-

We met up with a FRIEND for some talking!!!!  We got back home and did a little bit of school and then watched some videos for school and we were done!  Oh and the kids also had some reading time!

Wednesday-

Today was Emily's eye doctor appointment and our whole eye patching debacle... good times.

Between the doctor visit, four hours getting glasses and such and patching for 2 hours- that TOOK 3 1/2 hours.  good times.

dinner, bath and the day was DONE... so no school work!

Thursday--

Oh how the kids were gonna work this day!  They got up EXTRA early and got their chores done so that we could start school at a reasonable time.  Then we got off track but came back and started working again around 3:30.

We finished up chap 11 in Science -which feels like it has taken a year to finish!  Especially with taking last week totally off--- so finally DONE!  Only 3 more chapters to go!

It was all about the senses... we read our book, did the mini book, did the both crossword puzzles and did the copy work.  In addition to our science text we read one outside book on each sense and did some models.  I used these books for the reading:

And I used these books for some worksheet reinforcement:

And I used this book for the models:

Here are the models of the tongue, eye, ear and skin:

Here is Kaitling tasteingwith her tastebuds!

The kids also worked on art:

We used Mark Kistler Draw Squad and they did a 3D cake..

Then we used Draw Write Now and they drew an eagle- Kate took some liberty with hers- take note of the eye!

Matt's

Emily's

Kate's

Friday....

We had princess class and it was our banquet day!!! So exciting!  I will post and wrap up Princess class tomorrow.

We worked on history today--- finished up the Revolutionary war- no new resources.  We start up with the post Revolution and Constitution in two weeks I think!

And that was all folks!  Oh had dinner at Becky's house- yummo!  Thanks for having us!

Because he preached...

So yesterday's sermon was on anxiety!  Yes, I needed to be in there for this message.

Three types of anxiety-

natural anxiety (1 Kings 19: 5-6)

He told him to eat, rest and recharge.  Our bodies get wound up and need to sometimes STOP.  We need to take care of our self physically.

normal anxiety ( 2 Corinthians 11:28)

This is Paul saying he is anxious for the church... sort of like you being anxious the first day your 16 year old drives off in the car, or the birth of a baby, or a tornado spotted a few miles from your house.

debilitating anxiety (Matthew 6: 25-34)
this is the verse on why worry for what you eat when even the birds don't and it just is the kind of anxiety where we are concerned about things, or should I say overly concerned with things that don't matter or that we should NOT concern our self with!

NOW... I suffer from all three of these and even the normal amount of NORMAL anxiety for me is a lot of times blown dreadfully out of proportion.

Cures for anxiety:

Not making our lives dependant on things- Matt 6:19

Not forgetting how important we are to God- Matthew 6:26

Not worrying about that which we cannot change- Matthew 6:27

Making my relationship with God the most important passion in my life- Matthew 6:33

Living one day at a time- Matthew 6:34

What I would have said yesterday is something flippant like "easier said than done", but that leaves the sin at my door!  It is easier said than done assuming I am trusting God.  I am not saying that I will never be anxious again--- I am prone to it!  But I need to remember or be reminded about what the WORD says regarding anxiety and I am responsible for keeping it in check.

That is on me.

God allows human error--- we all make mistakes, all the time.  But it is not an excuse for me to say or think that I cant not become better.  To worry less, or be less anxious.

So for instance when I went into an eye exam today for me and the three kids, I did not expect to hear that my youngest has Strabismus, an esotropia.  I didn't expect to hear that I need to make an ophthalmologist appointment and possible have eye surgery in our near future.  I didn't expect to hear about patching and therapy eye wear or vision therapy.

Nope I didn't.

But.

God is in control- he cares more for her eyesight than even I do!

I cannot change this for her- God can heal her.  God can give wisdom to the doctors treating her.  But I cannot change this situation.

I will take this situation one day at a time.  I will carry on....

I will have a normal amount of concern for my child looking at a difficult situation.  I will learn all I can about it.  I will pray for peace and wisdom and healing.

But I will not debilitate myself by being overly anxious.

Doomed to the fire and brimstones of Hades....

I got you there with my title didn't I.

So I put up a paper that had house rules on it. I went over them very quickly but then sat down, I mean the rules were not new... I was just reinforcing them with a paper on the wall (yes hello to Super Nanny marathon).

We were all working again when I noticed a tear on Emily's face and she burst into tears and said "I am doomed".

I was a little startled to say the least.

I asked what she was doomed for and she said number 2. Well number two on the list was No telling lies. So of course I am starting to feel a little concerned. I said why would you be DOOMED over not telling lies.

She said no the second one... SO under Number 1 was NO fighting and in parenthesis was NO horseplay.

She was doomed to never be obedient if she couldn't play like she was a horse. I just burst out laughing.. although she was VERY serious.

I said "Honey, it doesn't mean playing like a horse, it means fighting, throwing balls in the house, swinging chairs around.. just being wild."

She, very teary eyed but obviously relieved went right on about her work.

Note to self:

Parenthood is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you will get.
(Thanks H-Mama for reminding me and don't forget to go comment on her blog giveaway!)

Fired Up gym meet

Emily had her third gym meet on Saturday.  She was sooo excited!  She did not do her best in the world, but she had so much fun!  She sat nicely and waiting very patiently, which is really, really hard for her and there were quite a few girls!  I was very proud of her fom listening, paying attention to her other team mates, obeying her coach and waiting.

Time out.

So Emily got in trouble during school time today and earned minutes in the BIG OLD UGLY BROWN chair in my room-- that is what she said to me one day,
"How come I have to sit in your big old ugly brown chair?" AND I replied, "You don't. Have a seat on the floor."

This did not go over well.

Anyway, over the course of the morning she worked her way into 35 minutes of sitting in the "big old ugly brown" chair and doing nothing.

The premise is "If you waste my teaching time, I will waste YOUR playing time" We will see if it helps!

Anyway, so she is sitting in the "big old ugly brown" chair and she gets up and comes over to me.

Emily: "Mom, Kate and I are going to do a play of Alice in Wonderland."

Me: "Great, sit back down."

2 min later.

Emily: " Kaitlin says I cant be the queen, she says Kirsten is going to be the Queen but I want to know how is Kirsten going to chop off peoples heads? I think I should be the queen."

Me: "I am sure you are a great head chopper offer, but right now you are in time out. SHHH."

2 min later.

Emily: "Hey mom it is 3:33. That's funny."

Me: "Shhh."

2 min late.

Emily: "did you hear your phone ring? Do you want me to go get it?"

Me: "No I am fine. SHHH."

2 min later.

Emily: "Did you know Ma Ma has Cats and Dogs: the Revenge of Kitty Galore?"

Me: "Shhh"

Emily: "Well we can watch it when we go to her house, remember the part..."

Me: "SHHHHH"

2 min later.

Emily: "Is my 35 minutes up?"

Me: "No, shhhh."

Emily: "I need to work on learning my part for the Alice and Wonderland play."

Me: "Emily Elizabeth. Be quiet, you are in time out."

Silence.

5 min later.

Emily: singing, " Here to stay is the new bird, he sings a love song as we go along...walking in a winter wonderland."

Me: "Emily, shhhh."

Silence.

Emily:  "wonderland (singing)"

Me:  "EMILY. SHHH."

Emily:  "I really think my 35 minutes are up now.  I think they are way up."

Me: "Emily, be quiet. Your minutes are NOT up and if you do not be quiet, I will add minutes."

Silence.

5 min. later.

Emily:  "MOM, they have Barbie and the Fairy Fashion books....6 OF THEM!"
Emily:  "6 whole books of Barbie and the Fairy Fashion."
Emily:  " Barbie fashion... (singing)"

Emily:  "I see you in my telescope."

Emily:  "It has been past two minutes."

ME:  "Emily I have just added on 5 minutes.

Emily:  "So that makes it 40 minutes right?"
Emily:  trumpet sounds from her telescope I presume.

2 minutes later.

Emily:  "Mom it is past 35 minutes and 40 minutes, it is like 45 minutes."  TRUMPET SOUNDS.

Me: "Emily. SHHHH.  I will tell you when your time is up. Now be quiet."

Silence.

Emily:  "Mom can I get up?"

Silence.

Emily:  "Mom it is 4:01--- when it is 4:05, I am outta this chair."

Me:  You do not know what time you started.  You have one more minute. If you had been quiet you would have been up over 4 minutes ago."

1 minute later.

Emily:  "YES, gotta go!"

Me:  "SIT DOWN!"

Emily:  "What my time is up...."
Me:  "What do you have to say?"

Emily:  "I am sorry"
Emily:  "Do you know where my Barbie phone is and can you tie this, i gotta go practice my play."

So what are your thoughts on time out doing Emily any good at all????  ; 0)

I was LITERALLY typing this out as it happens.

The great experiment...

I went to check on Emily who was being quiet, not usually a good sign... so I found her squishing jelly beans in my slider maker.  I asked her what she was doing and she said, "Oh just jelly bean experiments."

I was like, "okay, keep on with your bad self."

A little while later she came and asked me for jelly bean experiment record sheet.

HMMMM.  I will just pull those out of my back pocket-- I carry them all the time, JUST IN CASE!

But lo and behold, I went in search of said jelly bean experiment record sheets in the world wide web and FOUND THEM! Oh yes I did.

Printed them suckers out and it was ON! JELLY BEAN EXPERIMENT RECORD TIME!!!

And that was that!
