Weekly Wrap Up: Day 4-14

For those wondering why there have been no updates... and my be concerned that I am NOT doing school

Please take note... WE ARE!

I am just not taking MANY pictures and have not taken time to blog about it!  SO here is a sampling of what we have been doing these past 10 school days!

Bouquets of freshly "unsharpened" pencils.

New school supplies all in their boxes.

Science-- we finished up turtles and such and have moved onto SHARKS!

Hence the Lego shark!

started new devotionals because we are no longer participating in our church program... SO beyond our Bible study the kids each have their own devotional and Bible reading to do..

Yes, Emily's says age 2-5 but it was what I had and she can read and DO it by herself so it works for now!

We have sought out nature....

THIS is the 36th parallel-- woe to you who has a slave above it!

these are the states represented AFTER the Missouri Compromise.....
and the current states, including Florida who is still called a territory.

these are my children and niece LEARNING about said states!'

IN addition and not photographed we did English, Math, loads of READING, started Pinocchio as our Family read (and loving it), hand writing, All About Spelling (truth be told only one step!), and much more.

WE are learnin' somethin' here at Thompson Academy!

well...

pretty sure Emily has the chicken pox.....

guess I know how I will be saving money for the next couple of weeks....

by staying home during the whole virus, blistering, scabbing of the last scab and subsequent incubation period for the other two.....

good times.....

but you see, they don't have to stay home from school-- they have it here....

so it's still school for us BABY!

Proverbs

We are reading one chapter in Proverbs a day at breakfast. The kids each have a notebook and we are copying what fools do into that notebook. I think I am going to also have them write ONE sentence that really strikes them in each chapter.

I know Brenda wrote on the girls meeting THE SLUGGARD... my kids will meet the sluggard soon but for now we are focusing on fools!

Twice since we started we have been able to bring to mind SOMETHING from the passage in our daily life. So that is already some awesome fruit from reading God's word!

Beautiful....

UH Huh, Uh Huh.. That's the Way I Like It...

Isn't this sweetness... hubbie cooking dinner.  I don't usually mind cooking, but this was the other night during the worst of my headache and hubbie cooked.  AHHH.....

How I plan to act like the Borg this year...

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE...

Blame this on my current Star Trek: Voyager binge but really their absolute determination is inspiring!

I need a little bit of that.

Attitude during school--- YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED.

Not on the bandwagon to do English----- PREPARE TO BE ENGAGED

Don't want to follow my rules-----YOUR CULTURE WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US

Talking and interrupting during teaching moments---DISABLE HIS VOCAL PROCESSOR

Whiny tired children who need a nap--- REGENERATE

1. Facts provided or learned about something or someone.

  • I am still feeling residual effects of my treatment, neck is really sore!  I am calling the doctor tomorrow to make sure I should still be feeling this--- although the fact that she gave me enough pain pills for 6 days MIGHT have given me my answer.
  • I had a pretty good darn weekend (minus said pain)
  • I found books I need for school at Half Price Books (also hitting a Bucket List item!)
  • I feel excited about doing school tomorrow--- busting out the seriousness all up in here!
  • We are waiting to hear by the end of the week if hubbie will earn a much deserved and "needed" raise.  Please add that to your prayer list!
  • I am focusing on cleaning out the house this week-- I was supposed to do it 5 weeks ago and have hit VERY little on my list--- but again with the busting out the seriousness all up in here!
  • I need to NOT spend any more money.  BIG PERIOD.
  • I want to go on a picnic, with a picnic basket--- don't know what, anyone know why?
  • Matt has a rash- it is getting better but I still have to dole out medicine and I am bad at it, trying to MAKE IT a priority!
  • we have made some decisions about church and I am unsure how they will play out...hmmmmm.
  • the kids currently have a toad and ribbon snake up in my house--- we need to either let them go or stabilize their current living conditions.
  • I am on a Star Trek Voyager binge.... 7 seasons!  It will last me a while.
  • the neurologist told me my sore neck muscles and knots are REAL and that means Dave should give a back rub without complaining.  HE asked for a prescription from the doctor.
  • do you know that when you want to go do free things it still cost money to drive there.  :0)  hmmm.
  • I am already feeling overwhelmed at some responsibilities this coming school year, but need to ride out the panic wave--- it will work itself out!
  • I love the story of David in the bible-- pastor preached on it this morning and I really enjoyed the sermon!
  • I am thinking. THINKING about trying the read your bible in 90 days again-- I like to think I could accomplish that!
  • we are trying Latin again... we shall see (different program that my sister really likes)
  • it is one month till Matt's surgery-- I know tonsils aren't that big of a deal but it my first "mom" surgery!  I don't feel that worried about it but I am worried about finances surrounding it and I REALLY think I am using the "finances" to cover my anxiety about the surgery.
  • i still need a black ink cartridge.  arrrrgggg.
  • Dessert Trio  Blue Bell Ice cream--- don't be scared, just try it.  YUMMO.
  • I really need to wash clothes tomorrow.
  • I kept the bag my new sheets came in-- it is the same material as the sheets and I would LIKE to use them cut up in some way as ties for my curtains... anyone got any ideas on that?
  • My mom is going to keep the kids on the 21 of August overnight-- I am already excited!

Ouch x 4

So I had my neurologist appointment today.  Wow. I like this lady a lot!  For one she specializes in headaches and all the lights in the office are dimmed.. I could live that way!

So she talked to me for an hour and the conclusion:

not migraines.

really!

So it is a muscle in my back that has nerves coming from the occipital lobe and wrapping around to my sinus-- causing the sinus like pain and headaches!

The reason I have this issue.......

the elliptical machine at the YMCA.

really!

so apparently the movement of the arms going back and forth like that in a rowing fashion has caused the muscle to get all out of wack which in turn has caused the nerves to become way screwed up.  which in turn is causing my the debilitating headaches and the more minor headaches and sinus pressure.  It was never migraines, it was never a sinus infection.

IT WAS EXCERCISE!

really!

So, they took four shots and put them into the back of my skull into the nerves .

really!

Emily was in the room and started crying and had to leave.  I didn't know it would be traumatic to her.

Serious pain.  WORSE than an epidermal!

really!

In two weeks I have to go back and then two weeks after that I have to go back.  It is supposed to get easier each time as the nerves get "less out of whack".

The meds in the shot are a combination of a pain reliever but mostly it is a steroid.  Which when I had the "sinus infection" the steroids HELPED my  headache each time!

My head hurts like the dickens now-- she said it would likely get much worse tonight but start feeling better by tomorrow.

So yeah.  Ouch x 4, but I guess I am on the road to recovery.  And after 6 weeks I can start exercising again and just not use my arms on the elliptical!

Other than that I should be good....

really!

Schedule vs. Real Life

Because my friend Brenda asked for it... I shall blog about my schedule.

6:30 alarm goes off on my I Phone that says Wake Up Sunshine.  (really. it. does)
6:45 it goes off again.  ( really. it. does)
7:00 I barely manage to PULL myself out of bed (unless I HAD to get up earlier to PEE) and start the dryer- because REALLY it always needs to be started.
I make hubbie his lunch- assuming he needs me to or asks me to.
I check email and facebook -- if I already haven't of course (all dependant on the pee situation)
7:30 I shower or dress or lay back in bed--depends on our day!
8:00 Dave is getting up or finished getting ready depends on HIS day
8:30 usually Dave is gone or leaving and I get the kids up
9:00 breakfast, chores, getting dressed
9:30 start school Matt and Kate math, Emily typer island or Wii PE
10:00 Emily switch to whichever one she didn't do earlier and Kate and Matt English lesson with mom
10:20 Emily starts Math, then I do English with Emily
11:15 stops work-- anything not done they finish  after I am done teaching for the day
start science, if doing it for the day or history if we need to do something as a teachable moment
11:45 kids work on science notebooking or history independently while I start lunch
12:00 lunch and break, usually have kids do a chore before they can have free time
I move over laundry, think about dinner if needed then LIE down and do Internet stuff
1:00 handwriting, Typer Island, PE all switching who does what for 20 minutes
2:00 All About Spelling or Unit Study time
2:45 Bible
3:15 might send kids off with a book for literature, science or history OR they can finish up individual work
4:00 supposedly done with school and kids are free for electronics (IF their school work and early chores are done)
me laundry, bills, online stuff, phone calls, facebook YOU KNOW!
5:00 dinner started, make sure afternoon chores are done
6:00 dinner with daddy IF he is home

NOW that DOES happen a lot of days although it is not a full school load so I gotta work the other stuff in soon! and ALTHOUGH it looks like on paper that I got 5.5 hours of school in I really didn't it is just an illusion!     AND these times are often off---- A lot of times you will see us eating lunch at 1:30!

Here is how for instance TODAY went:

6:30 I Phone alarm goes off with Wake Up Sunshine
6:45 I phone alarm goes off with Wake Up Sunshine!  I start facebook or read blogs (after I peed!)
suddenly without warning it WAS 8:15 AND I got myself up out of bed!
8:30 woke up the kids- Dave left soon after, oh and started the dryer, because it always needs to be started!
8:45 kids GOADED me into pancakes and being the NICE mom that I am--- I made them.
9:15 sitting down all at the breakfast table (DOES NOT USUALLY HAPPEN AND TOLD THE KIDS TODAY IT WOULD HAPPEN DAILY!) (we will see how long it lasts.  :0)
classroom discussion over breakfast about new year--- see last post, our motto, our goals, our HOW THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR, our new plans, a few new rules, a few changes... etc.
10:00 we headed to school table and left all the chores undone (even though we had just talked about how we were gonna get our chores done) because we had to LEAVE at 11:00 and I needed to get some school in!
Emily on typer island, Matt and Kate math, started English with Kate and Matt, Emily switched to Wii PE
10:30 stopped the kids work and had Emily start math and Kate and Matt finish reading the Betsy Ross books they were supposed to have read almost 2 weeks ago.  :0)
10:45 I had the kids go get dressed and ready to go and I packed our lunch for the car-- cuz we are trying to NOT eat out!
11:00 leave for Amy's to do history
11:45 stop at Amy's office to make copies because my black ink cartridge is going out AGAIN.
12:00 got to Amy's........ did history
3:45 left Amy's
4:10 got to doctor office for Matt who had a bad rash that I HAD to get checked out (turns out it was very infected-- poor guy- cant catch a break!
5:15 left doctor office drove in traffic to CVS by my house - waited there for 20 minutes finally left and said I would pick up prescription later
5:40 drove through McDonald's ( remember earlier about not eating out!)
6:00 got to church and got stuff ready for kids
6:20 kids showed up
7:20 church over  (yeah early- business meeting)
7:40 came home after dropping off friends kiddoes (love having friends close!)
7:45 went through CVS to pick up prescription (still took forever)
8:10 got home NO HOUSE KEY-- somewhere in my day it has gotten lost.
called Dave he still has 20 minutes but will be home soon.
8:15 got back into the car and drove (back to where the church is) and went to Sonic because you KNOW it is half price floats after 8:00!  AND WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE MONEY SO HALF PRICE RIGHT!
8:40 got back home and sat in car waiting for Dave, drinking my root beer float.
8:50 Dave pulled up
        get everything in the house
9:00 GO PEE
9:05 start dryer -- because it ALWAYS needs to be started
9:20 disciplined Emily from earlier with Daddy's help
9:30 sent kids to bed NO READ ALOUD --- forget that I just told them this morning we were going to TRY really hard to do every night!
10:00 in bed watching Voyager re runs on Netflix because that is how we roll-- all SY FY "ish"
12:30 roll over and attempt to go to sleep but cant so I facebook, blog read and watch another episode of Voyager!
2:45 last number I remember before falling asleep
6:30 a.m. My I Phone alarm goes off saying Wake Up Sunshine.....

I am schooling btw...

I am in this strange place right now.  I am schooling but I don't feel like I am schooling.

It is an odd feeling.

I am on day 7 of this new "year", between two, 2 week breaks and a day at the beach and a day just off--- we are not behind but it feels like I should have just waited to start!

I thought wow... now this week I am settled into school really hard for the next 5 weeks, but I just feel like I am still in some weird limbo.

I don't know how to shake it off.  I guess I didn't get that NEW year thrill--- so I shall go get some new school supplies, possibly rearrange something in the school room and try... TRY to FEEL like I am schooling!

I think I FEEL like I am on summer break--- but I am NOT.  I just need an idea to cement this year and I think I need my years motto!  I said I was pondering one... but I THINK it will be DO ALL THAT YOU DO TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

I am in lurve with the new Stephen Curtis Chapman song... and every time I hear it I think THIS is it... I mean if we were doing everything to the glory of GOD wouldn't it solve some of our problems!  And what is a motto for--- to encourage and put a focus into what we are doing!  SO I believe I have chosen...

So I shared with Dave my reasoning and played the song for him and yes.... folks we have a motto!

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31
