Weekly Wrap Up--- Week 38

Monday---

Donut Hole Monday!  We are starting the day a little late-- but I am up and dressed which is an improvement over the last 4 days!  So that's good... I think my antibiotics are kicking in! 

Bible: we have finished up with Elisha and gotten to the prophet Nehemiah... tomorrow we start Ester!

Math: kids plugging along
Spelling: We finished step on and finished step 2--- wow PROGRESS! 

memory work-- I REALLY need to add new work to this!  Gotta get on that!

handwriting- the kids are going between cursive and finishing up the book they are working on now- They are almost done with the current book!

Science: all the kids did today was read some different books about underwater excursions and the deep ocean...

Tuesday---

Bible- Ester... we read the story and did a hidden picture page on Ester-- we all had to work together, it was hard!
We also watched Veggie Tales: The Girl Who Would Become Queen

Spelling--

Math--I have skipped Emily ahead two pages--- Each Math U SEE lesson has Page a,b,c,d,e and f.  A, b c and d are the "new" lesson and d and f are systematic review pages.  If they do well on a, b and c with no problems I allow them to skip d and just do ONE page of systematic review. 


Science--The kids switched up the reading books and then we watched Whales: An Unforgettable Journey

History--the kids are each starting a read on Lewis and Clark, when we went to Chicago last summer we go to visit the Arch and the start of the Lewis and Clark expedition.... so we have some great pictures to help us remember what the boats were like, and visuals of the area.

Wednesday---

Thursday---

History with Amy...

math-- Emily got to time so she also worked on some time flashcards.  She gets frustrated when she counts wrong or has the wrong time-- which frustrates me.  Trying to be patient so she will learn patience. 

The kids all three worked on Typer Island

We read the story of Esther from the BIBLE-- we had some parts confused with Veggie Tales so we simply read the whole story for our self.... such a beautiful story!  My favorite part is when Mordecai says to Esther, "Maybe you were made for such a time as this..."  I pray that my children EACH seek God for what they were made for...





Friday---

We spent four hours at the Museum of Fine Arts today.... T.I.R.E.D

And that was my week---- how was yours!

American History--- Week 20

We are starting Lewis and Clark---

We watched Sacajawea: Heroine of the Lewis and Clark Journey

it is a wonderful movie... very well done.  Shows lots of scenery, adds interesting facts. 

We worked through a bunch of worksheets like question and answer about the entire journey.... I downloaded all the worksheets from Teacher File Box

Next week we will put all of our worksheets and make a notebook of Lewis and Clark.

Happy Mothers Day....

I am proud to be a mama... to all of these munchkins, even if it is only by heart to the eldest--- I love you Sarah Jean!  I am so glad that I have been blessed with the privilege of raising these babies.  I have made so many mistakes, and I am sure will keep making them.. but I LOVE my babies.  I love being a mom and I have loved every second of getting to know them as they grow up and become who God wants them to be.

Fresh, clean starts....

Sparkling clean!  The fridge stopped cooling but the freezer was still working.  Dave ended up defrosting the whole fridge and now the fridge seems to be working again!  I took the opportunity- you know once I THREW everything away, to clean out the fridge.  So now it is all clean and fresh-- makes me happy.  I mean not happy that the money was wasted from throwing stuff away- but happy that it seems to be working and I got a clean fridge out of it!

Brenda posted the other day about fresh starts and it is TRUE.  I think clean fresh starts are so very necessary!  We need to implement them a lot more often than we do.

The fridge isn't my only fresh start lately... re did the school room.  Here is how it looked at the beginning of our school year.  Here is how it looks NOW!

My goal was for the school room--- basically the center of our house, to look school "ish", but to also be welcoming to any coming into the home.  I was trying to find a balance!

Ocean: Week 1

We are starting our study of the Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day...

The kids are very excited.  I went over the chapters with them and we tried to pick out a few to "skip" because of time restraints but they wanted them all!  We went over all 14 chapters!
So we are just going to jump in and DO!  I am sure we won't get to everything, but we will do all we can!

We started today with just the discussion of what we are doing. 
I had gotten a playdough sea set, so the kids set to work on their own sea bed! 

They played with playdough for about an hour!  Then after dinner they started again-- they are making a model of the ocean in a box.  We will continue working on it through out the unit.

Next we snuggled up on the couch to begin our unit with NONE OTHER THAN:

American History-- Week 19

We had history last Friday...

We made a little book of the Bill Of Rights.

Next we used a worksheet to make sure we understand what each ammendment talks about-- the kids did really well!

We also reviewd all our cards up to this point.

We started talking about the Lousiana Purchase--- We made a notebook page from material from Enchanted Learning

We added what the Lousiana purchase was bought for, the amount of land, Thomas Jefferson being president and Napoleon being part of France--who we purchased it from.

We also spoke of the Barbary Wars-- and talked about America refusing to pay the pirates that were attacking ships money to keep the ships safe.  This ended up in two wars being faught, and American winning both!  The Marine Hymn-- where it talks about the Shores of Tripoli, refers to these wars.
We also talked about the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791

May the Fourth Be With You...

Oh yeah... Star Wars Day--I am still not feeling my best but tried to let the kids have their fun!

We chose two of the six movies to watch. We couldn't just spend all day watching movies could we?

The kids had a light saber fight-- because it was STAR WARS DAY!

We used my Star Wars Cook Book to make some yummy treats!

We made this R2D2 Dessert-- a Twinkies upright with a piece of kit Kat on each side-- YUMMO.  We used icing to get the kit Kat to stick-- they even stood up!

 and we ate Darth Maul Double Dogs--

We used a skewer to put two hot dogs together (I couldn't find a foot long one), then we wrapped  a crescent roll around it and baked! 

We also made Jabba Jigglers-- which was just green jello to go with our dinner.

Dinner was  Boba Fett-ucini and Tie Fighter rolls

The tie fighter rolls were a piece of sausage with two pieces of refrigerated bread rolls wrapped around it to look like a tie fighter.


We also used this HOW to DRAW book to draw Star Wars figures...

We did STAR WARS copy work...
