Weekly Wrap Up- Week 9 and 10

We have all been sick in some form or fashion for about two weeks so we have done school but a few days it has been bare minimum!

But anyway, here is our wrap up...

Kaitlin is doing really well in her Math U See right now! Very excited about this!!! The only problem we are having is she sometimes multiples when she should be dividing... she must pay attention! I will say this though in her defense.. the problems that she does (multiplying instead of dividing- her multiplication is spot on!) :)

She has worked on Scripture Typer both weeks, she feels frustrated though that her wpm is so low that this week she went back to the Typing Instructor program to practice more.



We finished up Moses, we took a long time doing Moses but we watched all the movies:

We have had a good time, but ready to MOVE on!  So on to Joshua next week.



Matt is moving along in math just fine, no problems right now. In fact, in Math U See they give you pages A-F for each lesson, I have allowed him to skip E and F if I see he has the concept down pat.  I am afraid he will finish his book before Kate and surpass her in math, but I simply cannot hold him back any more... He is ready to move through and Kate will simply have to understand.  NOT looking forward to this conversation though! 

The kids have been playing SEQUENCE- STATES and Capitols for the past two weeks, they really enjoy the strategy of the game and bonus- learn the capitols!  



In science last week we did the digestive system!  YUMMO.



The kids also made the small/ large intestines our of play dough!

and yes there is 20 feet of small intestines, we measured!


In history- we skipped one lesson with sick kids and a car in the shop, but this week we started Ben Franklin... post to follow for American History.  I've gots loads of info on old Ben!

The kids have also played Wrap Around Math this week.  I cannot say enough good about this game!  It has
cards for addition, subtraction, money, place value and time.  It does say for grades 1-2 but really practicing facts is just not for grades 1-2!  My kids need to be practicing these facts beyond grade 2!  I enjoy it too.  We have not used the place value but I think I am going to do it with Emily next week just to practice...  I also need to use the time more often with Emily- she is still not always getting time.  I wish they had one for multiplication and division!

They also have a Wrap Around Game for vocabulary that I think would be a nice addition and a fun way to practice grammar!  We will see...

We got a lot of cool books from the library this week:
lots of fall, autumn books- post to follow
more history time period
Matt found Encyclopedia Brown on CD- he was very excited about this

We also found this really cool book- It is called Look-Alikes Around the World

When I got out the book to write about it on this blog the kids took the book from me and started looking at it again!  It is really interesting!


The kids spent an hour one day just pointing out what everything was --- for instance the top of the Taj Majal is made of onions, the towers a recorder , the bushes are brussels sprouts and the main entrance is a ballet shoe...

We have taken a break from Latin- I do not even feel bad about it (FOR ONCE).  It would simply be the first thing I would mark off our list so it wasn't getting done.  Emily was not catching on and Matt was frustrated- making me frustrated.  I will revisit this later, but for now... a break! 


We are reading BEN and ME (actually listening to is on CD from the library)


also we are reading Gulliver's Travels.

Kaitlin is reading another version- still abridged though.  I am reading the UNABRIDGED version and I need cliff notes!  :)


Matt just finished Harriet the Spy- he is waiting for Harriet Spies Again from the library!


Kaitlin is reading an Amish fiction book that tells the story of a young Amish girl who must choose between her love for animals and becoming a veterinary in the English world and her faith, family and friends. 

Emily is allowed to read whatever she picks up right now, but we did finish Rapunzel and The First Pup this week.  She has also finished 3 more lessons in Learning Language Arts Through Literature.  We have a ton of autumn/ fall books in the next two weeks!

Emily is also doing nicely in handwriting...

 We are working on the last stanza...
We are finishing it this week though to start a new poem on Monday!

I guess that about does it for this wrap it up...

Wow. Those intestines are SUPER gross!!!! The girls were amazed at how much playdough that took.

Your year seems to be going great!
