THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO...

I am reading the Bible- gasp!  I had an epiphany a few days ago.  I was sitting in a children's class and they were discussing John.  We were in verse 4 I believe but Jesus had left Judea and was on his way to Galilee.  He walked through Sumeria (which NO Jew did in those days- because the Samaritans were so badly thought of), but Jesus had a meeting to get to!  This was the day he needed to meet the woman at Jacob's well.  To tell her TRUTH.  Anyway, she was at the well and Jesus asked her for a drink and she said why would you a Jew ask me a Samaritan for a drink. Jesus replies that if SHE knew who HE was, she would ask him for a drink of LIVING WATER.  But the Samaritan did not understand and asked about the water.  Jesus told her that whoever drink the water from Jacobs well will be thirsty again but those who drink HIS water would not only never thirst again but would have eternity.

So the Samaritan said give me that water then! But Jesus asked her to go get her husband and the Samaritan replied I have no husband and Jesus said you're right!  You have had a whole bunch of them but even the man you are with right now isn't your husband and the woman KNEW something then!  She assumed he was a prophet so she asked...

"Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

So anyway to my epiphiny!  When I question God..... which I tend to do often because I am a questioner at heart and I believe that HE knows my heart and sometimes HE answers my questions and sometimes HE tells me that I don't need to ask that question.  But and don't think that I didn't ALREADY KNOW THIS.... but when I question God I simply need to go back to the scripture.

Truly the adage of the BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

It does, I mean assuming I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God- which I do.... The BIBLE TELLS ME SO!

I know big epiphiny!  Seriously I know this but sometimes I have had questions and not taken time to seek out what the WORD SAYS.. I just keep asking these questions OR I just keep wondering and wondering-- not taking time to seek truth out!

For instance I always wonder -- I mean the Samaritan woman had it right--- we think we are right about our worship and you think YOU are right about your worship...WHOSE RIGHT?

(I will use the word secular people to determine whom I am speaking about) Secular people say God isn't real OR there were so many gods before Him---why do we think HE is the ONE and ONLY.  I mean history talks about other gods that were being worshipped but I know God made the world... I just wonder why they don't see it that way.  Well because they don't believe the BIBLE!  DUH.  But it is always deeper than that--- why do these smart, educated people not believe?  I just always wonder?  I mean they are so much smarter than me, so much wiser (in the world), they can quote historical happening.... why don't they SEE truth?  BUT the Bible tells me that a time will come when it won't matter WHAT those people believe--- it won't matter what Hindu believe, or Muslim or Buddhist or Pagan Witches or Atheist.  There will come a time when they WILL SEE TRUTH- it might of course be too late for them but they will KNOW.  So I don't need to question.  I don't even need to wonder.

They will one day know the real TRUTH too.  They just might not get to NEVER BE THIRSTY AGAIN!

So I am reading the BIBLE--- not I guess reading it.. I always do that, but I guess seeking out answers for the things I wonder about.  I know big WOW--- but really it was not a light bulb moment for me- I already knew the answer but it was more of a confirmation... that THIS is how I know- THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Our pastor spoke on doubth yesterday, he said that honest doubt challenges complacency and requires courage. What struck me the most is the difference between doubt and unbelief- un belief is a moral issue of choosing not to believe while doubt is intellectual, looking for more evidence. The final 2 verses tell us what to do:

John 20:31 These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name

James 1:5-8 I didn't write out the whole verse but paraphrased it in my notes: if you lack wisdom, ask God

You got your answer for your lack from God- He told you to read your Bible :)

Oh how I love this truth! You know I'm like you and I question... if there is anything I don't understand fully or something that sparks interest, I will research it until it truly cannot be researched anymore. A few years ago, I was introduced to a doctrine I had never heard of before. I POURED myself into the Word for 6 months trying to find answers... I prayed like mad that God would reveal the answer to me. God kept telling me "SEEK ME". So after 6 months of reading every book I could get my hands on regarding the topic, searching every possible scripture with key word searches, etc... I finally said "God, let Your Word reveal it to me in Your time and in Your way" and I left it alone. Funny enough, the more I have just started reading my Bible to learn about Him, the history of our faith, etc, I have received my answer with confidence.... because the Bible tells me so! ;-)
